General Notes: (Source Jon Wicken) The Will of Moses Crisp dated 9 July 1789 names what is assumed to be him: "to my Daughter Maria Aldrich my cottages in Easton aforesaid in the occupation of Robert Hayward chairmaker, Thomas Grimwood tailor & William Edwards gardener". The will was proved 5 Jul 1792. A William Aldrich was apprenticed to Thomas' son in 1785.
Thomas could have been a tailor and a husbandsman as many people had two occupations or he could have become a husbandman later in life.

I have my doubts about his fourth marriage but I can find no other explanation, but it means that Thomas was fathering children in his seventies.
My reasoning is as follows:
Ann Pullen died in 1831.The marriage to Elizabeth Smith took place in 1834, Thomas shown as a widower in 1841 census they were in the same household (no relationships appear in this census), three children were with them.The baptism of the children gives the father as Thomas Grimwood and Elizabeth late Smith
Thomas died in 1849 aged 88
In the 1851 census Elizabeth is shown as a widow
No other marriages and deaths appear for a Thomas at the appropriate times

His death certificate gives Mary Ann Grimwood present at death. This may be Mary late Goodrum, wife of his son John.

The Third Report for Managing Patriotic Funds 1st March 1806
gives details of £60 received by Elizabeth Grimwood of Newington, widow of Phillip and her four children following a letter from the Navy Pay Office stating that Philip was killed in action with a French Frigate "La Ville de Milan" on 1st Feb 1805

Philip's death suggests that there was only one Salome, if she was the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth (widow), born after 1806 it would be unlikely that she was born in Suffolk.

Eliza would not allow an adoption by the Viccars family,who raised him as their own, but asked that Walter be returned to her when he reached age 14.He was raised as a foster child of Louisa Baker and William George Eli Viccars.
It is not known yet if he ever did see his mother as he grew up, but he was married at the address of 28 Court Street, Leamington, England.
Eliza had been living in the home of a Barrister, so he may have advised her of her right to withhold adoption rights.
No father was entered on his birth certificate, but when he married, his father was listed as Walter James Grimwood,deceased.(This could be just to make him appear legitimate, and father was Walter James ?)
On his marriage certificate he was living at 28 Court Street ! Just a few doors down the street, from where he was born !!!
Walter had served in the British Army while in England and served at Gibralter, also in India at Kyber Pass between the Indian and Pakistan borders. He also served in the Second Boer War in South Africa( 1999-1902) . He was a letter carrier when he returned to England after the war.

Added from W.W.1 pension details:enlisted in the army 14 May 1902, aged 19y 10m. Next of Kin, Eliza Grimwood Newbold. He served in Bermuda 1902-4,Gibralter 1904-5, South Africa 1905-6 and India 1906-10. He had left England 2 May 1912 on board the S S Corsican.
His wife and two children (Edith aged 4 and James W aged 2m) followed on 5 May 1912 on the Empress of Britain.
There may have been an unnames daughter born and died Dec 1913 in Saskatchuwan.
In 1914 a request was made for him to extend his reserve service in Saskatchuwan, Canada, his request was denied and he was discharged 15 May 1914.

In 1949 there was also a Mary Grimwood (domestic) and Betty Grimwood (saleslady) in Millars Hill (same house?)

In the obit for Elizabeth Gertrude Elizabeth Betty Taylor in 2006 it gives her parents as Walter & Gertrude Grimwood and siblings Adaline Watts and Patricia Grimwood; Bill Grimwood; Edith Tunstall, Dorothy Jenkins, Mary and Rose Grimwood; Herbert and James Grimwood; Kathleen Warren.
I have not investigated these children, presumably born in Canada
