Mr. Jeffery Grimwood Grimwood of Woodham Mortimer, the oldest Essex Justice of the Peace, died at Horsham, Sussex on July 3rd. at the age of 82, having been a magistrate for the county 58 years. He was grandson of Jeffery Grimwood, of CressingTemple, and succeeded to his grandfather's Essex property at the age of 24, when he assumed the name of Grimwood, his mother having married Mr. Cousins, of Woodham Mortimer Lodge. He had not resided in the County for many years. He was buried at Cressing on July 9th. His Essex estate is inherited by his elder son, Colonel Grimwood, at present living in India, his second son resides at Florence; the third son, as readers will remember, was massacred at Manipur, where he was British Resident in a native rising.

Marks says: Documents at ERO connected with Cressing Temple, what I believe to be an Abstract of Title includes reference to an Indenture in 1851 between Jeffery Grimwood Grimwood and various others INCLUDING James Lewis St Clair esq.(of Muswell Hill). Is this James Louis St Clair who married Juliet Crawshay 28/6/1848 at Friern Barnet?(Yes,confirmed by the father of Adrian Taylor). How did the name get into the Grimwood line?
There is probably a connection between this family and Frank and Edith St Clare Grimwood, but the link has not yet been made. The entry for Frank in the Oxford Alumni reads:
